When I was a kid tornados were something I had never heard of until I reached the age of either seven, or eight. Like most kids I would get scared of storms mainly because of lightning, and thunder strikes. My experience in a tornado were somewhat limited. It was because our house was never really hit by one nor was it torn apart. We lived in the piedmont region that had hills, ravines, lakes, rivers, creeks, and some fields covered in forests or patches of woods. Most tornados hit the areas that were flat such as Greensboro or the surrounding areas. I did hear about the damage that was caused and saw it on TV as a kid. It did scare me at the time, however I would actually forget about it the next day. Kids don't usually remember that all the time.
Back in the Christian School I was I heard there was a tornado watch or warning in our area. For some reason we went outside and a thick dark cloud hovered over the area. It looked a little more strange than I thought. Out of panic I shouted there was a tornado. It scared everyone and we all rushed back inside. Even I believed a tornado was forming right above our very heads. After all it was that time when tornados struck the area. This caused a bit of chaos among the other students who raced inside the building we were told to go in until permitted to go outside.
Listen I was a kid then and I did not exactly observe my surroundings very well. Some kids tripped, and fell hard on the ground. They were scared and tripped over something or were likely pushed. It was because of the panic that I probably caused yell "tornado" which resulted in some injuries or kids like to say boo boos. I can say it was mostly my fault for crying out tornado. When we were all inside I feared for my life. My imagination ran wild fooling me a tornado would rip right through the brick concrete building we sat in. This memory might as well be a confession about what I have done in the past. It may be nothing compared to what other kids have done. Yet I cannot help but wonder if the wounds are still there after twenty years or more.
