Subway's Stalker

I sat on the bench waiting for the late night subway train to arrive. It had been hours since I arrived at the waiting area. This subway system was old but not nearly as old as Boston or Mount Rushmore. As I waited the lights would flicker on and off every now and then. Many people assumed the electric system needed tweaking while others said it needed to be replaced. None of that was done for years on end. As I waited something in the dark tunnel grabbed my attention. A pair of red eyes stared back at me in the dark tunnel. It captivated me as though they forced me to look against my own will.

Something Mysterious

In the bag there is something mysterious. It is something that has yet to be discovered.  It has to be a piece to an unknown crime scene. In the bag it feels as if it were a dried up severed hand with veins still attached, all dry like hay. The hand seems to have been in the bag for a long, long time. The veins of dried blood, the hand hard and solid like wood. The murder must have been brutal, but where is the rest of the corpse? The investigator studied the hand in the basement of an abandoned home. Then the door creaked open and in walked the murderer.

Discarded Commando Part 22

This took Maurice by surprise more than it did Maphai. She did not appear very astonished that a pirate was coming over to them with an outstretched hand. Without hesitation the mercenary leader shook hands with the female pirate who then turned to Maurice Viyamor. She gave him an engrossed smile that sent signs of slight lust for the commando. He could almost feel her eyes wandering all over his body. She stopped to shake his hand as well introducing herself as Odelia ‘The Cold Bitch’ Scias.
This Odelia and her colleagues were members of a three hundred or more pirate crew based near Kilscar Orvain and Oceanrest Var. Odelia told them her crew was known as the Sovereign Corsairs who were often at odds with the Caligari Syndicate, other city-states, and the Gantronese Empire at times. She introduced her colleagues for them who still tried calming the canine-badger humanoid down. The Orc was known as Monoghan Ghurs, her Drow-Dark elf’s name was Omareth Chaulsenn, and their Canine Humanoid friend was known as Trion. She welcomed them to the town of Kunmar and the Green Cat Lodge-Inn.
After further introductions were made and the canine pirate Trion was calmed down the pirates, mercenaries and warriors went over to clean up the mess at the bar. Five corpses of the fallen sarcagosee colleagues were wrapped up in durable cloth once they stripped them of weapons and needed supplies. As for the deceased goons their corpses were carried to the back of the lodge inn where there was a back door and a trap door for waste. Each one was tossed into the swamp’s murky waters bellow the Green Cat Lodge Inn. Once new alliances were made the parties went to their rooms and slept as best they could after another fight.
When dawn came Maurice awoke with Brittany cuddled up against him in the bed of a small room Maphai rented for them. He sat up waking Brittany who forced herself up since the night had ended and a new day had arrived. Commando and Red Heart got out of bed and dressed for the new day. Both of them went down to the common area for breakfast where they found Maphai, Cagan, Odelia, Taregan, Hilastes, and Omareth sitting at a table with hot beverages. Maurice ordered a maid to bring him two mugs of hot beverages and a plate of eggs for him and Brittany. Both of them sat down with their companions to discuss a series of matters and issues. According to Maphai they were no more than sixty miles away from the border limits of Tsubib Pajibe and another city called Khasungai. It would be best to stay in Kunmar for a few days which apparently answered to another city to the south of Khasungai known as Magesar.
While they stayed in Kunmar the parties would go out in the swamps in search for any more signs of any lost Vestrisian soldiers gone missing in action. They would go to the settlements where Vestrisians were found. According to Odeliah another village had a few Vestrisians with the same dog tags Maurice was searching for. Maphai and Odeliah ensured the Sarcagosee that the pirates were with them. Hearing these words the commando relaxed in his chair knowing they had allies here in the swamps. Out of curiosity he tried getting information from the locals who did not want anything to do with him or his companions due to the brawl last night. He gave up after the rest of his party came down for breakfast. Maurice filled them in on what the agenda was for the next few days. Each one understood this, but appeared to be filled with the craving for revenge about last night.
Once the plan for the next few days was set the parties of warriors and soldiers chose who would go and who would stay. Maurice chose Taregan and Hilastes to accompany him. The rest of his companions would stay behind to bury their dead. Odeliah and her crew would scout out ahead by dinghy while the mercenaries searched the surrounding area. Before setting out, Odeliah warned Maurice and his party that the Caligari Syndicate would send more after them in the future. She looked at them very curiously wondering if they had killed a few or more members of the Syndicate’s army of thugs, and goons. Without a word the three parties set out to their tasks for the day. Maurice, Taregan, Hilastes, and Ocareth went to the stables where the cat steeds lay waiting for something to happen or just slept. Both Uwaux, and Ranger stirred three of the cats from their slumber and laziness. A trio of Jumbo Cats exited the stable allowing the riders to prepare them for another journey down the road while the rest stayed under the care of the Ranger and Tuxir.
As soon as they were mounted and ready with what they needed three Sarcagosee warriors rushed down the street onto the main road missing several pedestrians. Galloping on this wooded road they found there were more forks, and trails that branched off onto land and higher ground. Unsure of what route to take the three riders slowed their steeds down to a trot. All round them and the wooden roads the swamp’s trees towered over them showing signs of denseness. Maurice looked around as his steed wandered off the main road onto a path that went on land. Past the settlement behind them the swamps had a mixture of murky waters, rocks, plots of land that appeared more like islands with trees or just rocks. Knowing they had a few days of exploring the area the commando and his companions continued off the road towards the left. Taking a path off the main road the trio found themselves in a spot that had more vines, hanging moss, and drooping branches.
Erie silence was all they heard save for a few noises in the waters, and scuffling in the branches. This path took them further on to land getting them off the planks that kept them above the murky waters below. Maurice dismounted setting his boot covered feet onto the soil that had thick pieces of wood in the ground marking the path. Where they were it was silent for a few minutes until they heard a battle cry up head on the path. Sounds of a struggle and a fight emerged down the path ahead. Hearing these sounds of fighting Maurice and his companions remounted and galloped over to the source of the sounds.
The path turned left and right in a serpentine pattern passing large trees, thin ones, several with large holes in them. As they progressed towards the source shouting, fighting, and other noises could be heard. Maurice and his two companions came upon a large group of figures. Among this large group of figures were river swamp pirates, poachers and trappers surrounding a few monk pupils. Several figures lay on the ground motionless as the fight between the monks, these pirates and poachers continued. As they drew closer Maurice could tell there were just five female monk pupils in indigo and lapis uniforms similar to the monk’s back at the lodge. These girls continued to kick and punch until the pirates and poachers grabbed their arms and legs one by one. Each one was forced to drop her weapon and forced into submission despite their skills and strength. For among these pirates were orcs, and kuruks who were too powerful to bring down with bare firsts. Maurice gripped his reins noticing the weapons the pupils dropped, which included tonfas, detachable staff, kamas, and two pairs of knuckles. Both girls and weapons disappeared behind the crowd of pirates and poachers who started groping, and fondling these pupils.
Maurice dismounted spotting a dead animal in the background that had stripes and orange fur. He signaled to his warrior companions who immediately sprang into action. Taregan leaned over on his mount with his weapon ready. Hilastes charged head on into one of the larger pirates who held his weapon lightly watching the rape occur. As the Unseen bear mauled the pirate with his mount Taregan charged past the group smashing his war club into the side of a poacher’s head cracking his skull open. Maurice threw his knife into the back of one of the river pirates. He counted twelve pirates and nine poachers still standing who immediately dropped the girls and turned to the trio of warriors asking for a fight. Out of rage one of the pirates armed with an iron War hammer charged straight for Maurice. The Commando unsheathed his pole arm sword as the pirate ran towards him. Using it like a spear Maurice thrust the pole arm sword forward letting the pirate run into the blade. This pirate impaled himself onto Maurice’s weapon dying instantly forced to drop the War hammer.
Maurice twisted his weapon from the pirate’s corpse letting it fall forward ready for another attacker. A few of the pirates and poachers came to only to find themselves in another fight. This time they face two mounted warriors and a skilled fighter armed with a pole arm sword. Although they were surrounded by a trio of fighters and their Jumbo Cat Steeds the pirates and poachers were hesitant. Their hesitance allowed for Hilastes, Taregan and their steeds to attack again, which they refrained. From the dense trees around the path a score of rifles were fired rapidly simultaneously. Every standing pirates, and poacher fell on the road and surrounding ground. As for the monks the girls had ran back to the corpse during the confusion of the second fight. They kneeled down beside the dead creature mourning its loss. To the three warriors it became clear. This was their travelling companion the pirates and poachers had slain for its fur. Maurice and his companions rallied at the corpses choosing to leave the girls alone for the moment. Each one wanted to know who had massacred these pirates and poachers.

Out of the branches, trees, and shadows of the swamps over a score of men armed with rifles emerged before the trio of Sarcagosee. When he saw these armed warriors Maurice’s heart jumped skipping a few beats. Before him and his companions stood six Vestrisians and fifteen other men whom appeared to be locals, Uxane, Eothians, and Condor tribesmen from the Condor Confederacies.

Discarded Commando Part 21

Entering the lodge the commando and his eleven companions found themselves in a large common room. The main entrance to this lodge was set on the far right side of where most doors would be. Constructed out of planks from swamp trees the door sat just thirteen feet away from the corner of the building. One the right side of the common room sat the bar area where a barkeep and two bartenders served six patrons. Each patron sat in tall stools drinking the local ales of this region. Some wore overalls made from reptilian hides over tank tops, torn dirty shirts, sleeveless hide skin shirts, and leaf-grass made Kurtas. Others near the bar wore fishing vests, utility vests, plaid shirts with rolled up sleeves or torn off, trousers, cargo pants and sarongs.
The commando looked around the common area seeing other patrons, maids, bar wenches, and servants. Aside from the six patrons at the bar, those close by and their two other friends were fifteen other patrons. Four of these patrons were pirates sitting in the far left corner at a booth. What gave away these pirates was their choice of weapons. It was particularly those cutlasses pirates often wear dangling from belts. Even though this time was more modern time period there were still those who fought with melee weapons. At this pirate’s booth sat a female pirate, a canine humanoid with the appearance of a badger, an Orc and a skinny dark elf. Each one of them wore a different outfit that differentiated them from the rest.
The female pirate wore a corset shirt, pant boots that allowed the wearer to take off the boots. Over the corset and pants she donned a long, wide purple sash wrapped and tied around her waist. She also wore a swashbuckler hat over brown hair. In one hand she held a prince pipe and wore a gauntlet over the tattooed arm. Next to her sat the Canine pirate who wore a long sleeveless tan overcoat over a cuirass like shirt made from belts, plates of metals, and thick leather sown to a white shirt of wool. This canine did wear trousers torn at the ankles with a purple sash tied over the belt holding up the trousers. Beside the Canine humanoid sat the orc who had grayish skin tone. This orc pirate wore a sleeveless sweatshirt over loose baggy pants. He appeared more modern than the rest save for his purple bandana and large brown boots. His brown boots looked like they had seen better days. As for the drow he wore the more traditional drow garments of a long black tunic vest over a white long sleeved shirt with stripes, red pants, knee high boots, and a purple bandana enveloping a cap with the tail wrapped around his single braid pony tail.
Maurice’s gaze turned from the pirates to the rest of the patrons. These patrons sat at tables, round and square, big and small. Apparently this lodge had an assortment of tables, chairs, stools, a few sofas, one couch, corner chairs, and a few game tables. In the left side of the lodge was the fireplace/furnace that kept the lodge warm other than the kitchen.
At the fireplace sat a female monk of martial arts wearing the temple-school uniform dyed turquoise with green trim. She sat crossed legged in a corner chair in the midst of meditation across from a goblin scientist. On a nicer chair the goblin wore an unbuttoned lab coat over a nice suit without the jacket. This well dressed goblin had a monocle and goggles dangling from his neck. He sat comfortably while working on a strange automaton with four legs. Next to the goblin was a half drunk looking adventurer in a fine leather under a loosened Inconel chest cuirass. His seat was the couch which he lounged on with his hands behind dark auburn head and his feet hung over the other arm of the couch. Maurice could not see what pants the adventurer wore nor did he really care. The other patrons are a swamp ranger in rough looking gray buttoned collarless shirt, tan oil pants, two bandoliers, brown belt, and a pair of dirty boots. This ranger had the Borvadosian appearance that had a scar of banishment over the small holes where piercings used to be.
At separate tables in the middle of the lodge were four hunters, a pair of trackers/trappers and a Ranger-Poacher sitting alone. There wasn’t much difference in the other clothing that really made these patrons stand out. Each of the hunters and tracker/trappers wore brow, black, camouflage, and dirty green hunting jumpsuits. However the Ranger-Poacher had a tanned hide shirt with a collar, and buttons under a ragged red vest decorated with teeth, claws, bone ribs, hooks, and snake fangs. For pants he wore a Sarong that was dirty over boots made from reptile skins. All of them had distinct features to their faces and hair from beards, scars on one side, half shaven heads, tattoos, dreads, disheveled, messy hair and a missing eye. None of these patrons paid the large party any heed or attention. Most of them were either tired, drunk, oblivious, preoccupied, or simply gave no damns about them.
The walls of this fine establishment were decorated with animal hides, head trophies, large jaws of predators, skeletons of snakes, tapestries, horns from game, harpoons, long hooks, portraits, broken pikes, and guns. Such trophies and hides included those of deer, crocodiles, boars, mounted snapping turtle shells, skinned bear hides, crocodile hides, and the hides of swamp cat. After looking around Maurice turned to Maphai. She informed him that their rooms had already been prepaid. Accepting this prepayment the command nodded letting his companions off the hook.
Five of his companions went for the bar while the rest joined him. As he joined Maphai, Ordoz, Cagan, and his companions at the larger table Jode, Jenn, Loaket, Macan and Flede took empty places at the bar. The commando and his group sat down at a grouping of tables that were connected for larger parties. Just as the enlarged party sat down patrons began to leave, and guests retired for the night. While these patrons and guests left the larger party was served.
For an hour the gathered warriors, commandos, soldiers, goons and mercenaries drank, feasted and relaxed. They enjoyed themselves and each other’s company looking forward to a restful night. Maphai and Maurice discussed how long they should stay here and get information from locals on where the Vestrisians are. Taking out the dog tags Maurice showed Maphai. Her own eyes grew wide as if she had seen these before. The mercenary leader told the commando that there is a group of soldiers with that dog tag in a village south of here.
Before she can explain the lodge door burst open with a loud bang. Everyone’s attention was directed to the entrance. Ten large well-dressed goons came in the door way of the lodge. With the lodge’s attention on them the ten goons displayed themselves in a line. Every single one of them wore identical outfits that consisted of white silk shirts with thin red stripes under bronze waits coats and pants with a black belt. These fine looking outfits all had a blood red ascot tie. Over this these goons donned shawl-cloaks of a sinister black. Although the goons wore identical clothing their faces were not. On their heads rest trilby hats, bowlers, ivy caps, ascot caps, and pork pies.
Even with the attention focused on them these new arrivals stood there eyeing everyone in the lodge. Those at the bar to their attention away from them back to drinking. All four cougars and Harpy roared with laughter, shouting and carrying on. The rest of the lodge did the same thing and went on with their own business. Maurice still kept his focus on them from the corner of his eye. When the rest of the lodge turned away the ten well-dressed goons sprang into action.
What the Onyx Cougars did not see were weapons being drawn from pockets in the goons’ cloaks. Out of their pockets these goons wielded Kukris, daggers, batons, stilettos, spike nails, and crowbars. As one this group of ten goons crept up on the four Cougars and Silver Harpy. Oblivious to this the four Onyx Cougars in their uniforms of dyed Gantronese uniforms kept on drinking. The Cougar’s onyx claw scratch emblem disappeared behind the goons. Flede, Loaket, Macan, and Jenn became grappled and jumped by the ten goons. Jode leapt up as he companions were stabbed and beaten repeatedly. The lone Harpy smashed a mug on a goon’s head then jabbed a second with a knife. In moments she opened fire on these goons hitting a few, and bringing only one of them down. A baton wielding goon brought his weapon down on Jode’s head knocking her down to the floor. Maurice and his companions sprang up with weapons at the ready.
Just one other goon fell next to the other goon leaving eight armed goons against fifteen other armed fighters. To the left the four pirates were up with hands on weapons. Among the pirates the canine humanoid wielded an axe, and a short sword. His companions had their hands on hilts of cutlasses, scimitars, and rapiers. Maphai, Ordoz, Cagan, Nanim, and Vylinsis drew pistols, and a shotgun. Even Maurice’s group wielded pistols, and revolvers on the eight goons. Seeing they had brought knives to a gun fight the goons hesitated. The two sides were locked in a standoff allowing Maurice to concentrate on their uniforms. He squinted his eyes at something on their suits. A pin of some sort could be made out on the right side of their waist coasts. Each goon wore a pin that resembled a boar or pig of some sort.
Brittany brushed past him sowing an incredible amount of rage. Without warning this lone Red Heart opened fire on the eight goons. Using her pistol Brittany rapidly fired sending bullets at the goons. Although she preferred knives and daggers this Red Heart decided a pistol would suffice. When the chamber was empty three more goons lay dead and one of them clung to a wound while gripping the bar. Two of the remaining goons held up their Kukris and stiletto with angry expressions. The pair of well-dressed goons charged Brittany at random order. Both goons let out a yell and raised their weapons. Those who had no obstacles in the way riddled the pair of goons.

Each of the goons collapsed on the floor face first. The remaining three goons made a run for it. Eyanosa, Taregan, and Amonif were about to run after them the moment the trio fled. All three of them started to pursue these goons, but were stopped. Maurice and the rest of them stopped them forcing their angered companions to stay put. On their left flank these three were not the only ones about to give chase after those goons. The orc and Drow pirates held the canine humanoid back. It snarled at the door trying to get out of its fellow pirates’ grip. The female pirate approached Maurice and Maphai with her hand stretched out.

Prince of Kilscar Orvain

Outside the boarding the party climbed down to the outer deck where one of them set up a few inflatable boats. On the outer deck of the U-boat stood the two Deck guns and AA gun were located on the U-boat. It was decent weaponry to stave off attacks from patrol boats, enemy aircraft, or smaller enemy craft such as steel sloops, corvettes, and smaller frigates. Captain Griffin-Spear observed their surroundings and the vessels around them. There wasn’t much to look at other than the waters of the vast oceans and their own vessels of the Vestrisian Navy. His gaze turned towards the direction of their objective. Up ahead the Ganonoque sat motionless with nowhere to go. Its crew stood out on deck watching the approach of the Vestrisian U-boats. Her two allied ships were now heading back to Iperantos. Both vessels broke away from the convoy formation beginning a U turn course. This act seemed to anger the Gantronese who opened fire on the two fleeing vessels.
“Well, well men looks as though those Iperantosee will be facing the wrath of the Gantronese Empire.” Degrast commented drawing his men’s attention on the ships trying to make a run for it. As his men prepared the inflatable boats the Captain turned to see several other Vestrisian boats had sent out boarding parties. Although he could not see the rest of the fleet behind him Degrast knew the Admiral had them circling the area like sharks.
Returning to the task at hand Degrast climbed down to the boat with help from his crewmen. He seated himself in the boat while his boarding party set off with two boarding craft. Both groups paddled their way up to the motionless ship that sat like a sitting duck. Taking another look behind them Degrast saw seven sailors emerge out of the conning tower. They manned the three guns in case the Ganonoque’s crew or passengers opened fire on the boarding parties. Within several minutes the two boarding crafts reached the Ganonoque. Using their grappling hooks the boarding party hooked their craft on to starboard side. Ten members of his boarding party climbed aboard with their Captain.
The crew of the Ganonoque was caught unawares by the torpedo hits. Plenty of them were scrambling on deck in panic trying to quell the flames and attempting to get her moving again. Many of them were getting ready to abandon ship, but their Captain had forbid it. Aboard the Ganonoque Griffin-Spear’s boarding party began to round up the crew on the outer deck. Outside they managed to capture seventeen of the crew members. Degrast had his sailors tie them up to ensure they wouldn’t resist the takeover of their ship. Wasting no time Degrast took six men up to the ship’s main command bridge. There they found the Captain and five more of the Ganonoque’s crew. Degrast looked at the Captain of the Ganonoque.
He had a nicely trimmed dark beard on a round brownish tan skinned face. This Captain wore the royal colors of Kilscar Orvain and a green sash representing Gantronese support. The crew wore the standard sailing layers, fleeces, and trousers. Almost ignoring their fine dressed Captain Degrast looked out the bridge window. Several more boarding parties came aboard to reinforce his own party.
“Where is the prince of Kilscar Orvain?” Degrast demanded from the Captain.
“I am Captain Vorir Nabon of the Ganonoque you have n-“ he was cut off before he could continue.
“My question did not concern your name!” Degrast roared in the Captain’s face who remained silent and still from Degrast’s sudden snap at him. While the sailors stood in the bridge sounds of naval guns could be heard outside. Gantronese vessels exchanged fire with the two Iperantosee ships that tried to get away. Both sides kept exchanging fire causing a number of onlookers to watch the battle. The Gantronese and Iperontosee ships fought on ferociously. One side fought out of insult for abandoning a single ally and the other side fought to flee enemy hands.
“Now listen Captain…Nabon we are here for Prince Vannok-Rathi who happens to be aboard your vessel. I need you to cooperate, understand?” Degrast snapped at the arrogant ass of a Captain.
“Prince Lord Uchon Vannok-Rathi is in the mid-section of the ship’s passenger level.” Captain Nabon answered Captain Griffin-Spear. He looked at Degrast in a way that said the Vestrisian had little to no authority and was almost a lowlife peasant compared to him.
Degrast looked at this Captain Nabon unsure if he should believe him or not. For a few seconds Degrast pondered over this. He thought to himself contemplating what the Captain told him. Wondering if the Captain was lying to him Degrast put a hand on his pistol. Silence filled the bridge since the other crewmembers were rounded up and gagged. Even the captain of the Ganonoque stood quiet. Degrast was at first cool faced even though he was frustrated by the stubbornness from the captain. He began to get impatient with this Captain Nabon. His expression grew stern and serious as he stared into the other Captain’s face.
“You will take me to him, now.” Degrast insisted in a demanding tone that seemed to intimidate the Captain. A face of surprise appeared on Nabon’s face. Degrast was pleased to see the look of surprise on Nabon’s face. Now the foolish Captain would not be so damned stubborn. To ensure Captain Nabon would cooperate, Degrast drew his pistol from its holster. Although he did not aim the pistol at Nabon yet just holding it got his attention.
Looking at the pistol Captain Nabon nodded silently obliging to take this Vestrisian Captain to the Prince of Kilscar Orvain. Nabon’s fear of being shot dead was evident on his brown bearded face. Realizing he had the Captain’s full cooperation Degrast urged him on to the Prince’s location. Captain Nabon sighed with regret and fear. He opened a door in the back of the bridge then led Griffin-Spear. This back door opened to some stairs that led to the lower levels of the Ganonoque’s hull. Degrast motioned for two men to join him leaving four to guard the other prisoners.
When the two armed U-boat sailors joined them they started down the steps. Descending four short sets of stairs they made it to the middle section of the ship. Captain Nabon led them through another hallway passing rooms, storage and some crew members who stayed clear of these armed Vestrisians. At gun point the Captain took the Vestrisians straight to the passenger’s quarters where they would find the prince. After opening three other hatch doors they entered the passenger section. This section had a hallway lined with rooms for the passengers. Each one had numbers and letters on every door.
“Good, lead us to his quarters!” Degrast hissed pressing his gun into the Captain’s back.
Obeying his captor without any objections or protests Nabon took the trio of Vestrisian Sailors over to one of these rooms on the hallway. He knocked on a door that read 86 C. A young male’s voice called out from the other side of the door.
“Yes, who is it?” the male’s voice asked from behind the door to 86 C.
“It is Captain Nabon can I have entrance?” Nabon asked whoever was behind the door.
“My prince it is Captain Nabon here to check on us.” The male’s voice cried out with relieved joy. The sounds of multiple voices emerged like an argument was occurring on the other side. Shuffling could also be heard as the occupants moved around. Within moments the door swung open. Inside were four people a manservant, a Gantronese officer envoy, some woman, and the Prince himself. Prince Uchon Vannok-Rathi wore the colorful loose tunic over trousers and a gold cap. The servant wore a gold tunic over black trousers. Holding the prince in her grip the woman wore a loose flutter garb and an overlapping skirt around her legs.
Acting fast to complete his mission Degrast aimed for the Gantronese officer envoy. He fired twice into the Gantronese. The woman screamed and the servant about pissed himself. Behind one of his own crew shoved Nabon to the side. Degrast went straight for Prince Vannok-Rathi. He grabbed the Prince by the arm and pulled him over to their side. This woman clung to the prince trying to pull back. She appeared to be a mute, the prince’s silent mistress or concubine of some sort. As he found himself in a tug of war Degrast wanted to shoot or at least hit this suborn woman. To his better judgment and conscience he did not. If any civilians were shot during this operation and word reached ears of his superiors Degrast would likely face court martial.
Practically forced to drag the woman along the U-boat Captain hauled the Prince down the hall. With the prize in their possession the Vestrisians went straight outside. In a huge hurry Degrast ordered his party to rally on him as the Prince was forced onto the boat. Both captives were gaged and hands bound together. Once Prince Vannok-Rathi and his mistress sat down with Degrast his boarding party rowed away from the Ganonoque. The entire time they rode back to the “Hidden Sorrow” Uchon glanced at him whereas the mistress kept her gaze looking down. Uchon’s glanced held glares that showed how he really felt about this whole captive situation.
Acknowledging the Prince’s glares and anger Degrast looked at Uchon with a smug look. He felt very satisfied capturing a Princes of Kilscar Orvain. Not saying a word the crewmen made it to the Hidden Sorrow. Just as dusk was approaching Degrast’s boarding party packed everything back in place and joined the rest of their fellow crewmembers. Uchon and his mistress were taken to an empty space in U-boat where they would stay for duration of the new voyage.
Immediately after putting the captives in their quarters the Hidden Sorrow’s crew prepared to sail onward. Leaving the Ganonoque in the ocean the Vestrian fleet of U-boats headed back to base. Under the cover of darkness Vestrisian U-boats slipped away from Gantronese detection. Finding he had time to speak with Prince Uchon Degrast went to see their guests. The two captives sat quietly in a corner. No gags, no ropes or bindings held their hands or legs together.
“Prince Uchon Vannok-Rathi, I am Captain Degrast Griffin-Spear of the Vestrisian Navy. I hope-“ Degrast was cut off by the Prince’s sudden burst of anger. He seemed quite calmed and cool for one held captive, but it was only a mask hiding his true feelings.
“DO NOT SPEAK TO ME AS THOUGH WE ARE EQUALS!!” The Prince barked at Degrast reminding him of a furious dog back home. “Release me slug for I am a Prince of Kilscar Orvain!” Uchon growled at the Captain. Uchon’s pride in his birthright and his status gave him the sense of superiority over all common men no matter how wealthy, strong, pious, or experienced. It appeared to have gotten the best of him explaining the outbursts. It showed stubbornness and carelessness despite his captivity at the hands of the Vestrisians.
“Very well Prince, you are also a prisoner of the Vestrisian Union of the Vestrisian Republics. In order for us to release you, your father is to break whatever alliance Kilscar has made with the Gantronese. He is also to withdraw all forces and any support from this war.”Degrast informed the Prince as though these were charges made against his kingdom.
“Why, why would he heed the Vestrisians. Our state is a proud kingdom and will ally itself with anyone it chooses to!” Uchon spat at Degrast showing further pride and blind arrogance.
You arrogant, stubborn, royal slurcog you do not see it do you? Degrast whispered in his own mind. The Gantronese saw these kingdoms as nothing more than servants, and slaves to act as pons in war, or future pack mules and laborers of their completed empire over Calorn. They cared nothing about the sovereignty of those who allied themselves with them. Degrast looked at Uchon in the eyes and approached him even closer. The Prince stood up staring him back in the face with his chin up and full of pride. Without thinking Degrast flat out told the Prince the truth.
“You do realize the Gantronese care nothing about your sovereignty, kingdom, subjects, royal bloodline or your father’s throne? Of course you don’t they have brain washed you and other kingdoms into thinking you are in an alliance. No you are not, you see Prince Uchon the Gantronese see you all as nothing more than pons in war to spread their empire, slaves, servants, and pack mule laborers to build up their expanding empire. I hope that shows you how blind you are.” Degrast informed him like a teacher or school master lecturing an unruly, lazy and overly proud student.
To Degrast’s surprise Prince Uchon listened. His face held the attentive, awestruck expression. The U-boat Captain had the Prince’s full attention. Uchon seemed to realize the way things would be from now on. He looked at Degrast with eyes that asked if he’d ever see home again. It was the kind of look Degrast saw plenty of times and had great sympathy for those who held it.
“So where will you take me?” Uchon asked the Captain.

“To Ruhonthra, there you will be in custody until your father agrees to our terms.” Degrast told him not wanting to give him the full details. He left the prince to his thoughts and mistress. As he left the prisoners he joined his officers for dinner.

The Hidden Sorrow's Prize

Griffin-Spear
Captain of the Shark class U-boat 019 aka. “Hidden Sorrow”
Spring of 1843
West Southern Seas Garvosce Bay, Unknown Lands

Bringing down over seventeen ships between Borvadosian waters and the platform seas proved very useful yet overly intricate. For multiple weeks on end the Hidden Sorrow and Admiral Villainos’ fleet of forty six U-boats circled these waters. Nearly several hundred more Gantronese vessels sank to the bottom during those weeks. In his log Degrast recorded up to seven hundred thirty six enemy vessels destroyed by their single fleet of U-boats. Sitting in his own quarters Captain Degrast Griffin-Spear looked over the next assignment which was to intercept a certain vessel holding an important prince. This prince was apparently third or fourth in line to the throne of city-state Kilscar Orvain. He was often known as the Colorful Prince-Lord Uchan Vannak Rath. Most called him Khiev-Khan-Khun Rathonai the artful. At his age of twenty four this Prince was naïve and easily swayed.
With their U-boats circling the seas and exterminating enemy vessels the Prince would have difficulty traversing the seas in the south. Once the prince’s ship was intercepted it was to be commandeered then taken straight to Ruhonthra. There this prince would be ransomed in exchange for the city-state’s withdrawal from this conflict. With Kilscar Orvain out of the war the Gantronese lose support and another city. Along the coasts of the Unknown Lands scores of settlements and states fell to the Vestrisians. Degrast didn’t know very much about these Unknown Lands except for every report, rumors, and tales he heard of or read about.
According to Captain Chessoke the Gantronese were losing and gaining territories. These Unknown Lands were said to be vast in terms of thousands of miles all around. His deceased friend Lyren Connerson knew much about the Unknown Lands. It was enough for him to stay clear of it. For nearly six years Degrast received private letters from Lyren concerning his thoughts on the Unknown Lands. A knock on his door interrupted his train of thought. Taken out of the reminisce Degrast turned to his door.
“Enter,” he commanded letting whomever rapped on his door know they were permitted to come in. The door opened with that metal squeaky moan you heard aboard every steel vessel. In came First Mate Omar Zangi-Alamut wearing his officer’s uniform. He stepped further into the Captain’s Quarters. First Mate Zangi-Alamut stood at attention before his Captain.
“Sir, Captain sir.” Alamut saluted before he was permitted to continue. Degrast nodded for him to go on. “Three vessels have been spotted 236 degrees South West at our eleven thirty o clock. At our two o clock is a small fleet of seven vessels possible Gantronese.”
“What of the three vessels?” Degrast asked the First Mate.
“Those other three ships belong to the city-state Kilscar Orvain, and the island state of Iperantos in the platform isles and sea.” Alamut reported to his Commanding Captain.
Degrast stood up closing the log book of orders, chapters, schedules, and the ships they had sunken to the bottom. The Captain tossed the log on his cot and proceeded out of his own quarters. First Mate Alamut moved to the side letting his Captain by. He entered the hallway full of hatches, pipes, valves, and lines protected by metal lining. The Captain turned left away from the bow, Torpedo room, and the battery space. With First Mate Alamut following at his heels the Captain passed through the control room that was built under the conning tower and above the pump room. Passing crew members, OOD’s, Petty Officers, and experienced crew Captain Griffin-Spear made his way to the radio room.
Inside the radio room sat radioman Ensign Menelson with Seaman Apprentice Givorne Worenson. Both the radiomen stood up at attention when Captain Griffin-Spear entered the radio room. He looked at the two U-boat sailors hoping they had at least been in contact with the other Captains concerning the Chancellor Miron Thindir. After taking Prince Vannok-Rath to Ruhonthra they would sail for Borvados.
“Have you been in contact with Captains Chessoke, Borheen, Ambrosius, Heartstone and Korchis?” Griffin-Spear asked the sailors demanding his answer immediately. The Seaman Ensign looked at him with a few hints of few in her eyes.
“No, no sir I haven’t contacted them for days.” She answered him. The fear in her eyes grew as if she had disobeyed an order. For a second he thought she was going to cry. It was neither because she was a woman nor would it ever be that way in the ranks of the Vestrisian Army. The reason would be how sverxed they’d be for not following orders. If one did cry it would be in private away from others. Nonetheless no one would blame anyone for shedding tears especially during a war that could cost millions of lives on both sides. Menelson kept her cool and stood straighter then saluted.
“I will contact them sir on your orders.” She said as if she had boasted with masked enthusiasm. He could almost tell what she was thinking. Degrats kept that to himself then watched her observantly with a stern expression. Menelson twisted dials and flipped on the radio to contact the other U-boats. She typed on a keyboard with one hand and turned the dial while looking for the right channel and frequency signal.
“Captain I have a signal!” she cried appearing excited.
“Hidden Sorrow to fleet…Hidden Sorrow to fleet this is Uboat 019 do you read? I repeat this is Uboat 019 do you read?” Menelson asked over the radio with the head phones on her head and the microphone piece in one hand. For several moments she waited listening to the silence for any answers or signal. Another moment passed and she got something.
“Yes I can hear you as well over.” Menelson responded to another radioman over the radio comm. “This is Seaman Menelson of Uboat 019 aka Hidden Sorrow.”
“Good afternoon Captain Borheen, Captain Griffin-Spear wants to ensure you and the other Captains know which vessels not to attack.” She said to the person over the radio. For several moments Menelson did not speak as she listened to the other Captain. “Yes sir I will inform my Captain over.”
She turned to her Captain with some info from the way she looked at him. In his mind he could tell there was more to this mission. Not only would they have to sink the Gantronese vessels, seize the others, but engage more vessels. He could almost read it on her face.
“There is another small fleet of Gantronese ships further away from the Prince’s ships. Admiral Theinus and his fleet will engage that fleet while we disable the target. Menelson explained to her Captain.
Degrast took this in and pondered over a good course of action. Ordering the crew to their stations Captain Degrast Griffin-Spear left the radio room to the control room. His crew were at work preparing the sub for another engagement with the enemy. Those who were at the torpedo room loaded their vessel disabling torpedoes. OOD Lieutenant Velkonoy gave the Captain the helm while the First Mate stood near the periscope. At the steering helm Degrast steered the Hidden Sorrow towards the target. Under the guidance and navigation of his Lieutenants, radars, and navigators Degrast maneuvered the Uboat to the three vessels’ direction.
When they got close enough he aligned the Hidden Sorrow for a decisive shot. In mere moments of lining up a shot they released two torpedoes. Every crewmember sat down or kneeled quietly and listened to the silence. They let the Hidden Sorrow sit idle until the torpedoes hit their targets. Degrast looked at his pocket watch counting down the seconds before impact. He counted up to thirty eight seconds until the sea shook a little like an earthquake causing vibrations. Even though they were under water in thick sheets of metal the sound of the explosion still reached their ears.
“Sir we have two direct hits!” a crewman manning the sonar yelled with glee. This crewman was a Geverine from Boathria. His face was thin with a goatee and a military fashioned haircut. He had more of the dancer’s body type and tall in frame.
Every crew member within earshot cheered and raised their arms up in celebration. One seaman stood up and broke into song. He began the anthem of the VUVR before others joined the chorus. Spirits arose amongst the crew showing excellent morale. While the crew celebrated Griffin-Spear ordered for their vessel to ascend enough for the periscope. He looked through the periscope to see the damage of those hits. Their target floated on the surface motionless like a sitting duck. Prince Vannak-Rath’s ship the “Ganonoque” could not move and had smoke spewing from its stern. With no one else coming to defend this vessel their prize was free to take. He turned to look at the Gantronese ships which were now a flame and sinking from multiple hits. Degrast smiled at this then turned back to the “Ganonoque and her fellow ships. The two ships that joined the Prince’s ship were now leaving it to the mercy of their hidden enemy. As he watched these two ships abandon the Ganonoque and the Prince of Kilscar Orvain his crew ceased singing.
After observing the damage done to the Gantronese and Ganonoque Degrest let the periscope go up. He looked around at his own crew before checking his pocket watch once more. Looking at it reminded him of his daughters and wife. All of their faces appeared inside his head smiling at him. Each one looked very happy inside his own mind. He imagined the whole family at the beach with friends on a picnic. The image gave him a good feeling as he returned to where he stood aboard the Hidden Sorrow.
“Velkonoy bring her up to surface. Menelson contact the other U-boats tell them we are going in for the prize. First Mate Zangi prepare a boarding party that Prince will be in our hands!” Griffin-Spear shouted orders to his Officers who immediately obeyed his orders. Every crewmember went to action preparing the U-boat craft for surfacing.
The Hidden Sorrow shook a little causing everything to vibrate a little. Degrast held on as the craft rose up to the surface. It took them several minutes to ascend up to the sea surface. When the craft stopped its ascension Degrast let go. In moments the entire craft settled on the ocean with the slow rocking on its surface.
“Captain we are on the surface!” one of the crewmen announced.
“Move her towards our target.” Degrast commanded. His order was carried out as he felt the vessel move towards the target. First Mate Zangi-Alamut came up to him armed to the teeth but only summoned six men for the boarding party. Degrast squinted his eyes and knitted his eyebrows at his First Mate. He showed his disgust at only six armed sailors summoned for boarding the Ganonoque.
“Dammit First Mate we’ll need more men than this to take that sverxing ship!” Captain Griffin-Spear yelled at him. His expression must have shown his fury from the way his crew looked surprised and felt a little sverxed.
“Yes, yes sir. I shall round up more men for the boarding party.” First Mate Zangi-Alamut replied in a tone that only hoped it would satisfy his angered Captain. Ignoring this Degrast turned around and returned to his own quarters. He thought it was best to leave his First Mate to his duties. Inside his own quarters Captain Griffin Spear prepared to board this sitting vessel. He looked under his bed where the footlocker lay. Degrast pulled the footlocker out.
Opening the footlocker Degrast found his life vest, fine uniform for parades, banquets, and evenings. Among this he found his personal bullet proof vest and an O-3 combat pistol in a holster hooked on a belt. Grabbing the vests and pistol Degrast unbuttoned his shirt. Once he had it off he put on his bullet proof vest. He quickly buttoned up again then put on his life vest and armed himself with the pistol belt. Before exiting his quarters Griffin-Spear checked to see how much ammo he had. Counting about seven clips on the belt Degrast exited towards the control room.
There he found First Mate Zangi-Alamut and fourteen selected sailors for the boarding party. All the sailors his First Mate chose were armed and ready to board. Every one of them held an assault rifle, submachine gun, Optimates, or hand machineguns. He observed each one then turned to his First Mate.
“Stay here and man the helm I am leaving you command of the vessel while I am gone. I don’t expect much resistance or any more Gantronese coming.” Degrast climbed the ladder up to the conning tower. He opened the hatch to the tower and climbed up to the top. From there Degrast and his assembled boarding party went out on deck.

Vengeance

He was barefoot in the garden when Carol finally found Virgos. He walked up and down the rows of flowers quietly as Carol silently moved closer. By the time he finally realized she was there, it was too late. She fired the first shot into his side. Carol stood there, breathing heavily with the pistol in her hands. Her target bled all over the garden. He was still alive, kneeling on the ground looking up at her. The same man who ruined her life, cowered before her like a wounded animal. Her acquaintances had given her a perfect target. This was the same man she watched murder her parents, brothers and sisters. There was much anger within her.  Memories of her own parents burning alive flashed into her mind. Horrid memories of her siblings being shot dead appeared in her thoughts. Through rage she fired the rest of the rounds into the murderer’s body. When she emptied it the man's body collapsed onto the flowers he was bleeding on. He died slowly for justice had rained down on the cruel one.

Discarded Commando Part 20

Standing in the camp the twelve traveling Sarcagosee warriors watched these reptilian humanoids retreat from the small island. Even though it was dark they could still make out the shapes and shadows of the reptilian humanoids pick up the dead. Watching these Marsh Stalkers leave Maurice felt comfortable. In the dark night the twelve Sarcagosee warriors stood with their weapons raised. Each of their shadows and shapes were poised in fighting or striking positions. Seconds passed after the party froze in their current positions. All of them must have appeared more like statues left on the island.
Without any hesitation the party sprang into action. Using what light, they had available and the moonlight the party packed everything up. In a hurry they loaded everything they brought on the mounts then mounted the steeds. The night sky was becoming lighter indicating it was almost dawn. As soon as they mounted the party of twelve raced towards the road. Like something was giving chase the warriors galloped across the bridge and onto the wooded road. At full speed their steeds galloped down the road at a pace quicker than a horse. Maurice felt the wind blow past his face from the speed his mount galloped. Going at a pace faster than any horse made the world pass him like a blurry vision. The heavy thumping and pounding noise of the Cats’ paws thundering on the planks of wood was all they could hear.
Leading his party of eleven riders the commando pressed on towards the swamps. Although dawn was not yet approaching, and it was still night he could barely make out the swamps. Those swamps were just miles away with a good distance still to go. His concept of time was blinded by whatever time they woke up, fought the monsters, packed up, sped off the island, and the darkness of the night. Before he even knew or noticed how far they had run dawn approached. It snuck up on him like a quiet mouse that had been living in your home for months without your knowledge.
With the sun rising in the east every bit of the landscape could be seen ahead of them. The dawn’s light made everything more clear with color and brightness for a marsh. On both sides the marsh began transforming into a swamp. More trees, logs, patches of land and mud could be seen. It was clear they were getting closer to the swamps, which could be seen down the long wooden road. For the greater part of the morning the party slowed their steeds down to a trot. At a slowed pace Maurice blindly lead his party into the swamps.
Once the warriors and soldiers entered the swamps memories came back to the commando. He recalled the days spent in the swamps miles past the borders of Borvados. There he and the expeditionary forces witnessed and faced horrors and many savages. Those swamps were filled with savages, predators, enemies, and that grotesque worm like carnivorous serpents. Such disgusting worms had maws, and would go for large prey like beast of burden, steeds, other predators, and anyone with a large figure about themselves. Realizing he was in another part of the Unknown Lands Maurice shook the memories away. His focus returned to the road that changed.
Now the wooden road snaked and winded through the swamps. It wrapped around the trunks of large trees raised well above the waters and muck. In the trees an array of creatures, vines, lines, and green moss covered their branches. It was a decorative sight of green for a wild region. Among the branches lay scores of jumbo cats that appeared smaller than the steeds. These swamp cats watched the party of twelve warriors ride on the road passing their trees. One of them yawned while the others either watched or simply ignored them. Most of these tan, brown, black, gray, and cameo beige swamp cats watched the twelve sarcagosee. Each of them appeared more interested in the larger cat like steeds.
Maurice could feel the eyes of those cats still on them as they passed the swamp cats’ dwelling. He wondered if those cats would attack them or just follow them out of curiosity. Coming to a slow pace Maurice turned his mount around causing his party to halt in the wooden road. With his gaze and attention focused on the trees they passed he studied the branches for any signs of the cats. Each one looked almost the same except for branches, amounts of green moss, holes, size, shape and the roots of every tree. To his relief none of the swamp cats followed the party. Looking around their surroundings the party decided to stop here for a meal.
Twelve companions and twelve steeds at their morning meals before proceeding further down the road. Oraceth, Taregan, and Eyanosa fed their steeds dead squirrels, ferrets, mountain possums, and chunks of meat. When their meal was over the twelve warriors and goons prepared for another stretch of the journey. Everyone mounted up stirring their mounts to keep going. Well past the swamp cat dwelling, and their brief stop the party came across parts of the road that were broken, cracked, missing pieces. This did not hinder their journey as the steeds simply walked over them, jumped and even went around the damaged parts.
Maphai’s voice emerged from the radio amongst the static. He picked it up and spoke to the mercenary. According to Maphai there was a station, lodging, stable, and harbor in a settlement six to fifty miles from where they should be. One of her crew members spotted them while patrolling in his dinghy. The mercenary leader told the commando that his men should not run into much trouble in these swamps. All they really had to deal with are crocodiles, swamp cats, some strange creatures with tentacles, and claws. She ended their conversation there to let them continue.
He put the radio back in his pocket and proceeded on the road. A few more miles brought the party to a corpse of a long-deceased soldier. As usual the party halted as Maurice dismounted. The commando searched the corpse finding a combat knife, a pistol, seven bullets, boots, empty canteen, a nice ring and a bullet hole in the side of the soldier’s head. This soldier had apparently committed suicide after suffering malnutrition. Taking the items deemed useful Maurice searched the soldier’s neck. There was no dog tag around the deceased soldier’s neck. From the way this soldier was position it looked like he climbed onto the road from a canoe that he let drift away.
Stashing the items away Maurice mounted and kept on the road. Between the first corpse found in the swamps, and the lodging settlement the party came across three more corpses. Two of these corpses were Vestrisian soldiers and the last one was a lost Condorian soldier. After a full day’s worth of travelling, they came to a settlement in the swamps. Night had been over the swamps for an hour by the time they reached their destination.

In the dark they heard the voices of Maphai, Cagan, and Ordoz chatting next to a lodge. Their shadows and shapes could be seen in the lights that illuminated certain parts of this settlement. All over this settlement were lights, lamps, and hanging lanterns at each door, docks, balcony, and dozens or more along the road. From the way the lights shined one could county twenty or more structures in this one settlement. Unable to identify which structure was which Maurice led the party up to the lodge. As they dismounted a couple of stable hands appeared in the light. Letting the stable hands take the reins of the steeds the party of Sarcagosee grabbed their luggage and equipment. Under the lead of the commando the eleven warriors approached their new allies. Maphai turned to face them and beckoned them inside with a smile. She said there was enough room in this lodge for fifty or more patrons.

Discarded Commando Part 19

Inside the commando and his companions made themselves at home. The vast chamber held enough furniture for thirty or more people. What used to be the torpedo room, and hold or storage area had been converted into a large lounge area. Seventeen new allies settled in the lounge area. Every one of them set their packs and weapons down in a spot along the wall. The eleven new arrivals took a seat with their new friends who seemed relaxed and well rested. Maurice and the leader sat in comfortable armchairs as a sixth and seventh occupant of this submarine like base fixed drinks for their guests. While their companions conversed among each other the leaders discussed what lay beyond this base down the roads.
Maphai told Maurice about the origins of these roads, and how this submarine even got here. An expedition of explorers, scientists, biologists, zoologists, and students from a university in Lybesan came to the unknown lands in search of discoveries and for research. They constructed this submarine like base out of parts they scavenged and found from Gantronese equipment and bases they were abandoned. For several years they did research, and little experiments until the team were forced to leave the area a few times. The first time was due to conflict between the city states, the second was due to threats from gangs, and the third had more to do with the lack of funding for the expeditions. Maphai went on about how the native locals here began a series of roads all the way up to the Sarcagos Mountains and as far east and west as possible. It originated from the roads connecting the larger cities to the south. When she finished the tale Maurice contemplated this late in the night before heading towards the showers after his companions.
He retired to the main living quarters where bunks and cots lined both walls. Feeling tired from the journey Maurice Viyamor climbed into an empty cot letting sleep take over. On the next day he awoke to the sounds of his companions getting up. Feet landing on the metal flooring added to the creaking of the cots from the movement of those waking up to a new day.
Breakfast was native rice bread and crocodile meat. For the cat steeds swamp fish and meat from certain herds in the southwest. Only half of them drank coffee while the others drank tea or a strange hot substance called Vooska. Not many of them wanted to know where this drink comes from or had the time since they needed to get on the road as soon as possible. All twelve Sarcagosee fighters mounted their steeds once the large cats were prepared for the journey down the wooden road to the swamps of the Unknown Lands. Maurice Viyamor pocketed the hand radio Maphai gave to him. Behind him rode his eleven warriors, soldiers, goons, and trackers. The line was as followed Brittany, Amonif, Hilastes, Jode, Loaket, Flede, Macon, Eyanosa, Taregan, and the Ranger Oraceth covering the end of the convoy.
The swamps still appeared to be miles away down this wooden road. Under the paws of their steeds the planks and boards creaked from the slight pressure. Each large feline steed weighed between 730-940 pounds, which was heavy enough to hold rider and cargo. Combining the weight of all the steeds and riders would cause the planks to crack then break. As the steeds and riders progressed further on the wooden road the planks creaked and moaned from each step taken. Underneath them this road felt very sturdy as though it was recently built or the pieces replaced with new wood. On either side of the road was the marshy waters filled with patches of small islands, grass, fallen trees, rocks, bulrushes, vast amounts of lily pads, duck weeds, reeds, and cattails scattered all over the wetland. The only animals they could see stirring were crocodiles, turtles, snakes, frogs, toads, some flocks of birds, and various types of fish that would surface now and then. At a trot the convoy of warriors and goons proceeded onward with the landscape appearing almost the same for miles around.
Fifty miles away from the mercenaries’ base they began to see the landscape transform a little into patches of land with trees, bushes, and long weeds growing. This patch of land appeared too muddy for structures to be built on it despite the foliage growing on it. Maurice noticed the movement of crocodiles in large groups on this patch of land that was surrounded by the wetlands. For another twenty miles the line of warriors mounted on Jumbo Cats passed the same patches of land that seemed to extended and spread out like islands in the marshy landscape. It was growing dark again and they had to make camp seventy four miles away from the mercenary base. Using the flashlights the mercenaries gave to them the warriors went further in the dark a few more miles until they found a suitable camping ground. A fork appeared in the wooden road veering to the left. Trailing it with a flashlight the party of warriors discovered a platform attaching the road to an island stable enough to walk on. In minutes they rushed over to the island dismounted and set up camp. Looking around this island the party discovered some type of barrier with spikes, jutting out of the ground facing outward. A few skeletons of some humanoid monsters were discovered caught in this fence showing there was something else in this vast marshlands. A few feet from their campsite was a stable built for steeds, but no other structure. Once they settled down the party slept in campsite while the Jumbo Cats slept under the shelter of the stable. Rain clouds emerged over the area showering the wetlands with water from the skies.
Maurice could not sleep for a while since he was too wary of what other dangers lurked in this marsh other than the crocodiles. Whatever that skeleton belonged to there were most likely more of its kind. His eyes studied the darkness around the camp hoping to get a glimpse of movement. The only light he got was the campfire, and some lamps they set up. He felt on edge from this darkness over the marshlands that held some hidden dangers aside from the usual predators. Despite the constant battles, brawls, and the dangers he faced Maurice did not feel very comfortable here. Rolling around in his sleeping bag Maurice found the radio and contacted Maphai. After a few tries he finally got through and she picked up. Both leaders received good connection for their radios and conversed. Maurice asked Maphai about what other creatures lurked in these marshes.
Over the radio Maurice described the skeleton he and his party found in the barrier of spikes encircling the campsite. Maphai paused for a moment then told Maurice about what skeleton they had discovered. In these parts of the Unknown Lands lurked a species of reptilian humanoids that looked like a hybrid of humans, crocodiles, and amphibian frog of some sort. Their nickname is “Marsh Stalkers” and they are really called Urma Raves. These lurkers of the night come out of the waters after unsuspecting campers or travelers at night. It was best to keep going on the road to the nearest shelter, avoiding travel by night, or staying at a campsite with barriers the native locals set up along the highways. Fortunately for them they were only about a hundred or more miles away from the swamps. Depending on the time of day one reached the swamps they would be fortunate. Maphai and her crew had already arrived at the swamps. There were a few stations and small docks set up that linked to the roads winding through these swamps. If he and his party were camped at a campsite with a barrier around it they should be safe from the Marsh Stalkers. Having weapons was always a plus in fending off these Urma Raves since they preferred going after disarmed prey.
Maphai said her good night to the Commando letting their communication cut off. He was left with static through his radio for a few seconds before he switched it off. Realizing the danger they faced at night the commando went for his knife and firearm. Keeping the weapons close made him feel a little safer as he lay in his sleeping bag with his eyes wide open and focused on the darkness around the camp. His ears only picked up the sounds of the frogs’ ribit ribit, crickets chirping, crocodiles moving in the water, dripping sounds from rain drops falling from surfaces, and other noises of the night from nocturnal creatures. The rain had stopped a while ago taking off some of the misery of this part of their journey. Rain drops was the least of their worries in this part of the world. As the night went on Maurice felt his eyes start to close while his body succumbed to the power of slumber. The Commando unwillingly dosed off into a deep sleep that lasted for who knows how long. He slept until loud splashing noise combined with wood snapping, and the large cat steeds growling, and hissing jolted him awake.
He was not the only one woken up by the noises and growls. Shapes and shadows of his companions sprung up armed with their weapons. Several of his own companions turned on flashlights to shed some light on what was bothering their steeds. Shedding light on the dark area around them they exposed some reptilian like humanoids inching their way to the camp. As lights were shined on the area they realized their camp was encircled by these reptilian humanoid predators. When their lights shined on the stables several of these creatures had already been taken out with scratches and hits from paws. All twelve of their steeds growled, hissed, scratched and roared at these creatures which tried to approach but were forced back each time. Sounds of fighting erupted around him as his companions began fending the creatures off with whatever weapons they could reach in the dark. Maurice unsheathed his knife and swung at the nearest shape he did not recognize as his companion. The creature grabbed its throat gurgling the blood out through its mouth and throat. He went for another creature stabbing it in the chest. It feel as he went for another taking it out with no hesitation. Whatever type of noise or growling these creatures emitted it was too alien for Maurice’s ears, but it sounded eerie, siren like, and high pitched. Even when these creatures roared or shouted at them the noise did not hurt their ears.

Every one of Maurice’s companions fought in the dark as these Marsh Stalkers kept coming in one massive wave. These creatures were somewhat swift but not bright enough swarm a prey when it was armed. Most of these creatures kept their distance from the Jumbo Cats which were free to attack if they so wished. In moments the atmosphere around the campsite felt like the small island was covering by these Urma Raves. Space to move around was shrinking as these creatures continued to come out of the waters breaking through the spiked barriers. As the lights flashed around showing they had been surrounded Maurice caught glimpses of a dozen corpses caught on the barriers. He felt a little safer as he cut down a few more. While swinging his knife he realized he had his revolver, which he pulled out. Out of curiosity than from defending himself the Commando fired his weapon at these predators. He wondered if this would scare them off. When the gun went off the sound was loud and echoed in the night. These creatures stopped then began retreating back dragging their dead with them.

Entrance to the Underworlds Chapter

The sun rose minutes before the soldiers loaded up the Zedelets. The orange dawn rose slowly above the hills. The sun showed the direction of the caves with its rays pointing to the west. This cave was some miles away. After the last man was seated on a Zedelet, the whole unit took off. The zedelet drivers did not waste any time. They slammed on the accelerator and sped all the way. It was a bumpy ride every soldier grabbed a bar on the ceiling of the vehicles. Chiecra had one hand on the bar the other tightening its grip on his rifle. The ride was extremely rocky to them it felt like the road was a steep stone mountain. As the twenty zedelets headed towards their destination, their force increased. More Zedelets transporting troops and supplies joined in the movement. Soon the assaulting force had tripled in size and their objective was very close. This cave to the underworld was encircled by hills forming a moon shape around it. On ground level, these hills formed a straight line to the eye.
Out of nowhere, the sound of mortar rounds filled the air with high pitch whistles. The Zedelet drivers took evasive action to avoid getting hit by the shells. These shells were like rain of death pounding the ground all around the moving force.
"It sounds like they're already here!" Chiecra yelled trying not to let the whistles drown his voice out.
"Yeah, and they've already established a base around the entrance!" replied viktorov.
The zedelets moved in all sorts of zigzags and turns avoiding the mortar rounds. Unfortunately, the zedelets had to stop in the line of fire. The Vestrisian troops jumped out of their transports in a hurry. Blocking their path to the entrance was an assortment of wreckage and carnage. Vehicles were piled up all over the place forming a wall. The vanguards rushed to the mountain of wreckage seeking a haven from the deadly shells. Some shells hit a few Zedelets killing those inside. Several zedelets stopped near the wreckage giving the Vestrisians cover from the raining rounds. Chiecra and others managed to hide inside a crater big enough for a hundred men. They were able to hide from enemy eyes in here. From within the crater those that made it listened to the whistling sound of the mortar rounds pounding the ground around them. In front of the crater was the mountain of wreckage. Right next to the crater laid a large bronze tunnel trailing up to a fuel tank. Chiecra slowly crawled up this bronze tube with the knowledge that it could lead him to the reaper of death. This fuel tank was once a part of a transport ship that was shot down. The fuel tank was the size of a master bedroom. It was hollow, empty of its fuel from leaks in the hull. It was large enough for sniper attacks with many holes suited to do so. Its hull was a good place to attack from while unseen.
Next to the largest hole sat a dead sharpshooter with a sniper rifle in his arms. This man had been shot in the head. Chiecra crawled over to the body and took the rifle from the corpse. Through the holes, he could hear machineguns blasting away their targets. He had to act fast to save his fellow Vestrisians. Chiecra looked behind him at the small tube. Someone also found it and made their way up to join him. The cadet pulled this person up and saw it was Liviscart followed by Ilkez.
"We saw you crawl up here so we decided to follow you. The Major ordered us to follow you in here." Ilkez said pulling himself upright.
"Who's dead and missing?" demanded Chiecra.
"Casan is blown to bits by mortar round. Curtian and some others charged forward. I think they are either killed or captured." Ilkez informed the young soldier.
Chiecra understood the sacrifice and knew what needed to be done. "Is there any word from the Major?"
"Yes he wants us to take out those mortar teams, stationed around the entrance." Ilkez said to him.
With a salute Chiecra crept over to the largest hole. Peeking through it he had a perfect view of the mortar teams and some machine gun nests. Ilkez sat next to him covering his left. His hole was at the far right of the fuel tank. He looked through the scope setting his sights on the first mortar team. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a group of Vestrisian soldiers taken prisoner. The Nazdar's hostages were tied up and forced through the underworld’s entrance. For one-second Chiecra believed his eyes were playing tricks on his mind. He got a short glimpse of long brown hair. He blinked his eyes once to be sure of what he really saw, but the long hair had disappeared along with the other prisoners.
He then set his gaze on the enemy mortar teams. He aimed straight for an officer giving out orders. His first shot brought the man down to the ground. The next target was about to load another shell when Chiecra shot him in the neck. Blood splattered out of the Nazdar's throat as he died. Ilkez got the third one for Chiecra. The cadet angled his rifle to seek out more mortar teams. He wasted little time with his other shots, four quick shots. Ilkez shot three more, decimating a third mortar team.
A voice came through the tube from outside. "Great job, There's only half of them left!"
The two snipers continued their hunt for the mortar teams. Chiecra found the fourth one in a dug out trench. He could only see the tops of their helmets. He counted seven heads with the grey helmets. He picked them off one at a time until he was forced to reload. He knew he shot two of them. He heard Ilkez fire a few shots while he reloaded. Reloaded and ready Chiecra jumped into position to kill more. Checking on the mortar team, he noticed there were five men left.
“That's strange, I thought Ilkez shot them?" He pondered before resuming his killing spree. Amongst the kills, he gunned down two machine gunners. Once the last of the mortar teams were killed the whistling rounds stopped dropping on the Vestrisians.
"Well done, Chiecra!" Ilkez complemented lightly punching him. Liviscart looked out then dropped to the floor covering his head.
"Get down!" Liviscart hollered at the group.
They did not pause to ask why the two soldiers acted quickly. Just as they dropped to their bellies, the fuel tank’s hull tore open. The Nazdar apparently possessed rocket launchers. Viktorov climbed into the torn open fuel tank followed by seven other Vestrisians They all dropped to the floor to avoid enemy fire. All ten of them popped up to exchange fire with the enemy. They faced an entire company of eighty men. From the rapid shooting by the ten Vestrisians the Nazdar company were escattered by the smaller force aided by unseen help in the wreckage.

The shootout lasted for about twelve minutes as more Nazdar came running into the fight from the hills and the entrance. The Vanguards held them off gunning multiple enemies down. They got out and charged the Nazdar positions. They found several more Nazdar in foxholes and behind large rocks. Each of them killed the scum with a steel blade to the throat. Several scores of Vestrisian Vanguards came out of their hiding spots to join the ten Vestrisians. Major Hawke and Kouthra gathered the remaining survivors of the assault. There were nearly seventy men standing before the two commanders, with scores upon scores of dead Nazdar all about them. The company stood in front of the massive entrance before them. It was dark save for a few torch lights barely lighting the way down the spiral tunnel. Chiecra was the first to enter the underworld as they descended some stairs.
