Letter Of Regret

Dear Mr. Magh,

I regretfully decline giving your daughter a job within my Estate. She is a very talented woman, and has accomplished much according to the local records. Yet there are things that I do, which she was clueless about. It is with deep regret that I must send her back to you, Mr. Magh. Should I call you by what we all called you The Red Striped Shark. If it were up to me I'd make that your House Sigil. Having your daughter here has been a delight. Everyone within my circle, and crowds loved her.

She has to stay with you or someone far from my estates in the hills of Vigolas. I don't know if you are aware, but these newcomers from the stars are in fact invaders. They brutally conquered the large island continent and overran much of the west and south. Our neighbors such as Tholand proved difficult to defeat. Khimaal is far too cold to cope with. and Dias Teov made a deal with them. Your dearest daughter is better off in the east alone the coast.

Yours Sincerely,

Lord Korseen Maddson

P.S.

These invaders are two factions. One call themselves the Nazdar. The others are known as Gantronese. Both intend on taking over our world. Each one brought an army of followers, servants and mercenaries.

Charlotte Bauslaugh and the Knucker Chicks

For the past three years Charlotte Bauslaugh served as a scout for the Mercenary Company called the Dragon's Might. Her military days began at the age of seventeen when she lied about her age while signing up. Both of her parents were frank with her about joining the military at that age. Mr. and Mrs. Bauslaugh had a total of five children. Charlotte was the second oldest of the five children. The oldest sibling died while taking the fight to a syndicate in control of a specific area. All her other siblings either lived with their parents or studying at the university. Against their wishes she joined the military then wound up in the service of the Dragon's Might.

The city-state who hired them hardly sent anyone to help them. Several days of fighting witnessed the city's populace going crazy, killing themselves, each other, sending people to fight, and marching to the front. Seeing that happen sent shivers down her spine. Her own mother would become wroth with anger at any of these families. No one should send their child to war as a sacrifice for their city. Many of these youth reminded her of the girls she used to know back in her days at the university. Most of them wanted to drag their teenage attitude and mindset into adulthood. To her it meant they would never grow up even in their damned twenties. Just thinking about home, family, old colleagues, and those she saw as enemies in the school made her boil.

Charlotte returned to her mission, scouting the brush and patches of woods. She saw nothing for an hour when a small group of Veerland clansmen approached her location. Acting fast she dove into a pool of water that was more like mud. Knowing it would cause splashing noise she hid in the tallest and thickest brush she could find. This scout did not want to draw attention nor be caught. She laid in mud and brush for as long as possible. While she waited something brushed against her in the mud. Taking a look Charlotte discovered she had stumbled upon a Knucker Dragon's Nest.

At first she believed the larger Knuckers would attack her. Some deity, or fortune smiled down on her. None of the Knuckers attacked her or even cared. She appeared invisible to these Knuckers from the way they reacted. The Knucker Chicks tugged at her clothing. Charlotte was confused at first then one of the chicks climbed on to her. It nuzzled against her chin and neck. She laughed and started playing with these little Knucker Dragons. As she played with them she tried to keep tabs on the enemy patrolling the region while hidden in the mud and foliage.

A Declaration

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was alive in its streets. Patriots or Rebels to the Crown crowded the cobblestone streets, alleys, and the markets. Every hand held a colorful flag with red, white, blue, and white stars. Some waved the Gadsden Flag while others held up the Join or Die. Muskets were discharged in the air, cannons roared in celebration, and every bell rang in each church. Taverns had been occupied by the Patriots and Patrons whom drank and sang loudly. Little Cyrus Fraser watched the Continental Soldiers parade in their blue uniforms and tricorn hats. He sat on a barrel excited to see soldiers of the "new america" march in the streets. Music played as well from a band that marched in from behind the soldiers.

His little green eyes caught glimpse of a huge figure wearing a large great coat. The figure had a large build like that of a negro who worked on the farm. Yet he seemed a head taller than one. Whoever this beast of a man was he had a striking resemblance to a McKee he knew from Scotland. Cyrus kept his little eyes on the man. He stood by the alley as if he was waiting for someone. The little green eyed boy focused his attention on this huge man who would be mistaken for a highlander or a man from the Scandinavian countries. Looking around the man acted like he was watching the parade and took out what looked like a flask and a tube from his coat. Not caring who was watching he took a big gulp and turned around. Oblivious to the boy watching him the man urinated inside the tube that seemed to heat up at the bottom. Smoke emitted from the top indicating it was some strange contraption. Cyrus assumed he must have known Benjamin Franklin or a man like the famous inventor. The man shook the tube and turned it upside down to find nothing dumped out. Both flask and tube went back inside the coat. The parade lasted for some time as more people, drunkards, harlots, women from the bed houses formed a mesh of peoples. A woman appeared at the alley. She was not by any means from the colonies or Europe. She dressed in what appeared to be some type of armor. The strange female caught the man's attention and beckoned for him. Both disappeared into the alley.

When the soldiers and parade marched passed his location he jumped down from the barrel. He raced towards the alley that was across the street. As he approached it he heard a growling noise from above him. Cyrus stopped to look up. Some hairless human looking creature with a monster's skull face clung to the wall. It drooled hungrily at him and showed its fangs. This was no wolf or man, but something else entirely. Cyrus froze where he stood as this thing clambered down towards him. At first he thought he was a goner as it neared its prey. The world around him became like a dream as he felt his arm move yet it was more like in his head. His gaze was too focused on the monster. His own armed acted on its own picking up a piece of brick. Feeling his arm throw the object hard Cyrus watching this monster get hit in the forehead. The piece his arm threw embedded itself in the monsters head. It instantly fell from the wall with a thud.

Cyrus was in tears now. Not because he killed something, but because he was that terrified of this thing. His tears turned to crying and then burst into wailing. That caught the attention of whoever was in the alley. Two women and the beastly man rushed up to see what the commotion was. One of the women was the armored one who caught the huge man's attention. The second one was a buxom woman in a tunic, long skirt, thick boots, overcoat, and a nice hat. Her hair was blonde styled in something outlandish. She was the one who rushed up to him.

"Oh my goodnesses this is little boy was nearly eaten!" She nearly shrieked in fear. The blond haired woman snatched him up like a mother would and held him. Pressed against her breasts and stomach Cyrus stopped crying. Fear some how went away.

"Godfrick you confounded fool! The locals here cannot go missing!" the woman snapped at Godfrick.

The one called Godfrick somewhat face palmed her. He appeared to be in disbelief. Then turned to the dead creature and the boy.

"Priscilla put the boy down I want to speak to him." He demanded in a soft tone.

"Very well, Arika cloak our movements." Priscilla snapped and hissed.

Cyrus was put down and the woman went to another part of the alley appearing frustrated. The woman known as Arika tossed to items on the walls that created smoke that transformed into a wall. Cyrus was bewildered by this. His eyes looked at them realizing these were most like angels or people from the sky.

"This is the second time we had to interact with these natives since that John Adams. Boy what is your name?" Godfrick asked Cyrus. The boy's mouth tightened and his body shook. He feared this man more than the monster he just killed.

"My...my n-n-n..."

"Now look at what you've done you scared him!" Priscilla screamed at Godrick. The tall blond woman snatched him up again moving above the ground in a blink of an eye. It was as if the woman was a ghost that could appear in any place she wanted. "It is okay little one."

Cyrus could help but giggle and hugged the woman in turn. She squeezed him a little more. Priscilla appeared to be on the move to tuck him in her arms. Godfrick cleared his throat drawing attention back to him.

"What is your-"

"Cyrus, Cyrus McKee, but my father is gone. He left me and mother for awhile. Yet I have to use my mother's maiden name since she was forced to marry some Redcoat officer who took a liking to her." Cyrus said.

"Cyrus huh? Well kiddo your father sounds like someone who is too busy for family." Arika put in.

"Arika don't make him cry again." Priscilla warned her.

"Okay, Okay fine if it helps we could locate his father." Arika snapped back at her. "Dumb bitch of a mage."

"Language!" Priscilla returned the snap covering Cyrus' ears. He only laughed. Priscilla put him back down.

"I am okay, I feel safe with you. And you sir, you look just my dad." Cyrus said pointing at him.

"What?" Arika said caught off guard. "How do you not look like him?"

"I have my mother's look I guess." Cyrus shrugged.

The three figures huddled together a muttered to themselves glancing back and forth. It was about ten minutes before they got back to him. A trio of strange figures from some far off world in the sky turned their attention on him.

"Are you three angels?" Cyrus asked.

Arika laughed ignoring the glares from Priscilla.

"Kid ha ha ha , we are ha ha ha, not an angels..." Arika could not control her laughter and fell on the ground.

"We aren't exactly what you call angels, but Guardians sent here to protect your people. Arika get serious now." Godrick explained to Cyrus. He then continued to tell a story about his race, and how part of their race wound up on this planet.  The Guardian Knight kneeled down next to the boy.

"So from this day forward I declare the three of us your personal Guardians. We will watch over you and all your descendants who kill any of our enemies or monsters from another world." Godfrick declared.
