On this day in French History when Parisians, angry Frenchmen, Jacobites gathered to storm the prison only to dismantle it afterwards. Tearing this symbol of oppression down they removed any further symbols of the French Monarchs, and Nobility who ruled over France.

It also commemorates another date of resistance on this French National Holiday when the siege of Liege ended during World War One. A Belgian force called the Legion d'Honneur unexpectedly resisted the German advance.
